The UAE’s biggest telecoms company is marketing the etisalat 211 FM mobile phone as an affordable device for price-conscious customers. Prices start at Dh265, etisalat said. The company has bundled the new mobile with a Wasel SIM card along with Dh165 in free air-time credit for international calls over a period of three months.
The product’s launch at the Gitex technology show is “a strategic move” for etisalat into the mobile phone market segment, said Khalifa Al Shamsi, etisalat’s Senior Vice-President for Consumer Marketing. Until now, etisalat has sold mobile phones in partnership with foreign companies such as RIM, Apple and HTC; such models have included the Blackberry, iPhone and HTC Magic android-based phone.
The new 211 FM supports MMS, WAP and FM radio features. The slim device has a coloured display screen and supports both Arabic and English languages.
Customers can purchase the 211 FM mobile device bundle from etisalat’s Business Centres, outlets and online shop and at large retailers. The bundle is also available this week at the etisalat stand at Gitex Shopper.
Etisalat targets what it claims is the region’s fastest fixed broadband Internet in the region — its new 30 Mbps package — at residential customers in the UAE. Based on so-called fibre to the home technology, also known as FTTH, the new package will boost Internet speeds, encouraging customers to enjoy newer avenues for Internet surfing online gaming, audio and video streaming, the company said.
“Etisalat is committed to provide the best of technology to its customers by introducing advanced technologies like FTTH in the UAE,” the company’s Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Khalfan Al Qamzi said.
