A total of 110 signs which classify 63 hotels and 47 hotel apartment facilities within the emirate will be unveiled in the coming days as the tourism body starts rolling out its classification scheme ahead of the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
The new graphic signage was unveiled by the authority’s chairman Shaikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, in the presence of Amr Abdel-Ghaffar, Middle East Representative of the World Tourism Organisation, and other senior ADTA officials.
“It’s all about standing out in a manner consistent with Abu Dhabi’s highly respectful style,” said Al Nahyan. All hotels and hotel apartments within the emirate have been classified with hotels categorised on a sliding scale of one star to five stars, and hotel apartments classified as either deluxe, superior or standard.
Nasser Al Reyami, Director of Tourism Standards at ADTA told Khaleej Times that out of the 63 hotels, more than 30 per cent are awarded the five star classifications.
“Five-star is the highest classification,” Al Reyami said.
“There is nothing in the world for six to seven stars. But we are planning in future to have more than five-star category. “It is in the pipeline and we hope to implement it in less than two years.” — olivia@khaleejtimes.ae
