Aircraft FZ181 took off from Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 2 at 12:30am and made its inaugural landing in Assiut at 3:15am local time.

One of the oldest and largest towns in Upper Egypt, Assiut will now be connected to Dubai and beyond with flydubai’s thrice-a-week service. Dubai’s budget carrier also began flights to Luxor last week.

“Egypt is a very important market for flydubai and developing our network within this growing economy is an important part of our overall objective to offer safe, low cost and quality air travel throughout the region and to better serve the travelling public,” said flydubai Chief Commercial Officer Hamad Obaidalla.

“Considered the geographical centre of Egypt, Assiut is thriving with several urban development projects underway, including the Qena road project, construction of over 3,000 residential units and a mega energy project. Flydubai’s service to Assiut will complement this growth by offering direct links to the UAE and beyond. In addition, this magnificent city has plenty to offer tourists, making it an ideal short break destination,” he added.

Assiut is known for its agriculture, especially with strong trade in grain and cotton. It is also home to one of the country’s largest universities. Assiut was founded in the Pharaonic era and is located 400 kilometres south of Cairo.

Flights to Assiut are available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The flydubai model is simple, with customers paying only for the services they want to receive. The ticket price includes all taxes and one piece of hand baggage, weighing up to 10 kilogrammes, per passenger.

Flydubai operates from a modernised and enhanced Terminal 2 on the north side of the Dubai International Airport.
