“The UAE is our largest market in the Gulf, and, although the country has faced challenges from the global economic slowdown, HSBC remains very positive on its medium and long-term outlook,” said Simon Cooper, CEO of HSBC Middle East.

Sharaf, a UAE national, joined the bank in 2008, and was previously regional chief executive of HSBC’s personal banking division.

Prior to his move to HSBC, Sharaf spent 13 years at National Bank of Dubai.
