DUBAI — The biggest interiors event of its kind in the Middle East and Asia – Index 2008 – was inaugurated here by Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.
World’s major suppliers of furniture, fixtures and fittings turned out for Index 2008, which can convert into a year’s worth of deals in the five days of the show.
“Nearly 1,800 companies from 60 countries worldwide are exhibiting in the event, which runs until Sunday,” said Bernard Walsh, Managing Director of dmg world media
More of the Middle East’s high spending professionals, architects, interior designers and specifiers attend Index annually, than any other event because it is the most comprehensive sourcing opportunity for furnishings and contract interior design in the region. Tens of thousands of products and services under eight core product categories are on show.
While there may be some slow down on major projects, there are still record breaking contracts across the Gulf Co-operation Council countries for the fit-out of commercial and residential buildings, hotels, retail outlets and mixed-use developments nearing completion, said Walsh. — abdulbasit@khaleejtimes.com
