As per statistics, 4K accounts for only two per cent of the Emea camcorders market; HD/SD accounts for 87 per cent, with HD alone making up 11 per cent.

Dubai — Japanese consumer and professional electronics company JVC launched four camcorders with 4K, ultra-high definition capabilities in Dubai on Wednesday, which is part of a global launch programme
The team, which has partnered with Oasis Enterprises in the UAE, was in the UK earlier and will next visit the US.
“4K is the driving factor in the broadcast world at the moment. Delivering in 4K resolution is crucial for production companies. For instance, the BBC in the UK bought 600 models of JVC’s GY-HM650E,” said John Kelly, general manager for the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia and MEA at JVC.
As per statistics, 4K accounts for only two per cent of the Emea camcorders market; HD/SD accounts for 87 per cent, with HD alone making up 11 per cent.
With the UAE being the Emea’s biggest camera market, Dubai was a natural choice for JVC to launch the new camcorders.
Upgrades to existing camera models, the GY-HM170 and GY-HM200 are entry-level 4K camcorders that can record in both HD and SD formats.
The small, compact hand-held camcorders are perfect for travelling videographers. JVC’s target markets for these models are education and corporate video production.
The dual-SD memory card slots allow the user to record on non-proprietary media and facilitate simultaneous recording and relay recording.
Meanwhile, the GY-HM200 comes with a removable handle, an optional stereo microphone and streaming capabilities. Live HD footage can be streamed through the Internet to a broadcast centre using Wi-fi or 3G/4G connection. The IP connectivity also enables you to remotely control and monitor camera functions from a tablet, smartphone or computer anywhere in the world.
The GY-HM170 sells for €1,740, while the GY-HM200 is at €2,290. Both will be shipping to Dubai by the end of the month.
“The GY-LS300 is our first product that moves from the traditional sensor to a Super 35mm sensor which offers a cinematic feel. It is ideal for applications such as documentaries, feature films, commercials and music videos,” said Kelly.
The camera allows various lens to be used, offers 4K ultra-HD capabilities, streaming service and provides images/videos with shallow depth of field.
It sells for €3,400 and will be shipped in time for Cabsat, the leading trade fair for broadcasters, production and animation houses.
“There are very high-end film type cameras costing tens of thousands of dollars. This is at a completely new price point. It is very adaptable and cost-effective for a higher-end production company,” said Paddy Taylor, sales manager for the Middle East and Africa at JVC.
Meanwhile, the GW-SP100 comes with a camera, a Super 35mm sensor, a recording system and remote control. Easy to mount, this camera can, for instance, be mounted on a crane in a studio to take sweeping shots, in cars or for filming wildlife. It comes with options for long cables (ranging from one metre to 100 metres), dual media slots for 2K and 4K recording, live streaming and IP connectivity.
Costing €8,000, this model can be used in sports, industrial, medical research and scientific applications.
