Recently held in Dubai, the annual Arabian Business Excellence Award, is rated as one of the top regional business awards.

In all, 13 companies were awarded in different categories with the lifetime achievement award presented to Ahmad Humaid Al Tayer, chairman of Emirates NBD and Commercial Bank of Dubai and governor of Dubai International Financial Centre, according to a Press statement issued by Emke Group.

Lulu hypermarket bagged the excellence award in the category of ‘Retail Company of the Year’, on the basis of its “remarkable achievements” in the retail sector of the Middle East, where it commands more than 32 per cent of the organised retail market, the statement said.

Previous winners of this award included Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, chairman of Kingdom Holdings, King Mohammed VI of Morocco, King Abdullah of Jordan and Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Department of Dubai Civil Aviation, Chairman of Emirates Group.

Yusuffali MA, Managing Director of Emke Group, accepted the award from Walid Akawi, CEO of ITP Group, the organisers of the business award.

Speaking to media after collecting the award Yusuffali called the award as another honour for the retail group that continued to open new outlets in times of economic slowdown.

“I dedicate this award to our loyal shoppers across the region who have helped us reach this level. This award will encourage us to further raise our quality benchmarks and reach for newer customer satisfaction levels,” Yusuffali said.

The retail chain has this year announced expansion plans to its existing businesses in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, India and other markets.
