Luxury Car Sales Record 6 Per Cent Growth in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI— Abu Dhabi Motors, distributors of luxury automobiles BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce in the capital bucked industry trends by posting a six per cent growth in a ‘challenging’ year.

The company sold highest number of cars in its 20-year history, in a period when premium automotive market fell by 25 per cent, Arno Husselmann, General Manager of the company told reporters.

Contributing to this performance, the general manager said that the top-of-the-range BMW models continued to remain popular with sales for the BMW X6 Sports Activity Coupé increasing by 78 per cent; BMW 7 Series business was up by 122 per cent; The new BMW Z4 roadster contributed an increase of 150 per cent to the revenues.

Despite prevailing challenging conditions within the automotive industry, he said that sales for the MINI brand in 2009 increased seven per cent, making Abu Dhabi Motors the largest importer of MINI in the Middle East,Husselmann said.

The company’s approved used-car programme, which achieved a 16 per cent increase in sales in 2009.

The unprecedented result, he said in what has been a ‘challenging’ year for the automobile industry, confirms the increasing importance of Abu Dhabi as a key market for BMW Group Middle East.

Abu Dhabi Motors was once again in the top five Rolls-Royce dealers in the world in 2009.

Arno Husselmann said: “We will add five new models to the BMW portfolio during the first five months of this year.”

“BMW Gran Turismo offers a unique combination of versatile sportiness and stylish elegance. It combines the characteristic features of a prestigious sedan, the functionality and space of an SAV and elements of a grand touring car,” added Husselmann.

The general manager said that other new models that will be launched in 2010 will include the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 and ActiveHybrid 7, the new BMW 5 Series and the BMW X1.

Over the last twelve months Abu Dhabi Motors has opened new facilities in Al Ain, a showroom and service centre.

The company is also undergoing a multimillion dollar redevelopment and expansion to existing Umm-Al-Nar Showroom, which will include a dedicated MINI and BPS showroom.
