A significant portion of this should be spent on Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance or C4iSR technologies and services to support a more strategic, information-based approach to national security, Keating said in a statement issued here in the context of the second edition of ‘Gulf C4iSR’ conference and exhibition which began here on Monday.

Today’s global political and economic shifts require a rethinking of the Gulf’s defense strategies and greater emphasis on military communications capabilities. Several Gulf Cooperation Council states plan to enhance their C4iSR capabilities in response to evolving regional security requirements, the statement said.

Hosted annually by the UAE Armed Forces, the ‘Gulf C4iSR’ — 2010 conference is featuring a new format which will include roundtables and interactive workshops by senior UAE military officials. More than 120 senior officers from the UAE Land, Sea and Air forces arediscussing the conference themes of joint force interoperability, information security, and transformation to network-centric capabilities with regional and international defence specialists and officials, the statement said. ramavarman@khaleejtimes.com
