MoFT also expects the exposure to these events to enhance awareness on national industries, boost export opportunities and create new business partnerships between the Emirates and the rest of the world, according to a Press statement on Saturday. Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Director-General of MoFT, said that the Ministry aims to benefit from the platforms and exhibitions available in the world markets, especially those organised by the UAE’s trade partners. He said international trade events enable the Emirates’ private sector and business community to establish commercial and investment partnerships with their foreign counterparts, thus stimulating the country’s foreign trade. Among the events Al Saleh has identified in MoFT’s 2010 calendar are the “China Import and Export Fair,” also known as the “Canton Fair,” to be held in April; the “Privileges International Trade Show” running in Johannesburg, South Africa in May; Tunisia’s “Safakes International Fair” in June; the “Kenya International Show”1 scheduled in Nairobi, Kenya in June; and “Expo 2010 Shanghai China,” which will run for six months starting early June. Other fairs slated for the latter part of the year include the “International Business Show for Industry and Trade,” in Vienna, Austria in October; the “Malaysia International Trade Fair Show” in November; and the “Hong Kong Small and Medium Enterprises Show” in December. For her part, Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, will embark on a promotional tour across four Indian cities in February. She will promote UAE goods and products as well as investment opportunities in the country. Her trip will feature a promotional fair of traditional and heritage UAE industries. Al Saleh said the Ministry has taken several factors into consideration while planning the UAE’s participation in international exhibitions, such as the emirates’ geographic diversification strategy and the unique needs of the country’s manufacturers and the private sector in general. He said that MoFT adopts modern and professional methods to enhance the UAE’s trade promotion activities and policies and coordinates closely with concerned authorities in the country. He further said that MoFT focuses on opening global markets to UAE exports from the public and private sectors, which is a major thrust within the country’s economic policy.
