The two countries should also explore new avenues of cooperation in small and medium scale industries, the minister told the first meeting of the UAE-Britain Joint Economic Ministerial Committee.

Al Mansouri said the joint panel meeting was taking place at a time when the UAE was pursuing a policy to further open up to the international community to strengthen its role in the global economy. “The UAE looks forward to a positive outcome that would help strengthen the role of the joint committee. We are confident that the British side will take our proposals seriously as they would serve the their economy given the UAE’s status as a flexible and diversified economy,” he said.

The two sides will discuss among other issues of mutual interest, the impact of the international financial crisis on the world economy and the UAE’s efforts to manage and handle these consequences locally and internationally.

The UAE-Brtain bilateral trade hit Dh30 billion last year.

The UAE is the tenth top trade partner to Britain, the sixth largest exporter to the UAE.
