HMD Global on Tuesday formally started sales of the first Nokia 5G smartphone, and also introduced other devices that further pushes the envelope when it comes to low-priced yet competitive mobiles.
The Nokia 8.3 5G, which was first flaunted in March this year, was one of the first devices announced to have Qualcomm's newest Snapdragon 765 chip. HMD Global says that it is the 'first truly global and future-proof 5G device'; it will be compatible with all current 5G bands.
Florian Seiche, CEO of HMD Global, said: "Isolation and vulnerability are real, meaning the way we are working and living has transformed. We all quickly realised the importance of technology and having a reliable and trusted phone in navigating these uncertain times."
Seiche was speaking at a virtual presentation from the UK's Pinewood Studios, where the next James Bond film, No Time to Die, was shot. The upcoming movie features the Nokia 8.3 5G.
Two other phones were introduced: The Nokia 2.4, which has a 6.5-inch screen, promises up to two days of battery life and a dual camera with advanced AI imaging. It comes with Nokia's 'Android promise' that guarantees two years of updates, meaning the device will be ready for Android 11 and 12 updates.
The Nokia 3.4, meanwhile, promises a 70 per cent performance upgrade compared to its predecessors.
Both devices have advanced AI imaging. They will be priced at Dh419/469 and Dh529, respectively, and will be available in the UAE next month.
HMD Global also introduced the Nokia Power Earbuds Lite, which is IPX7-certified and has up to 35 hours of battery life, as well a new portable wireless speaker.
