“Businessmen in the City can save their operating expenses between 20 and 30 per cent because rent of prime locations inside Dubai is quite high, but here land lease rates are much lower,” said Al Malik after inaugurating Taasees — meaning establishment — an integrated one-stop centre offering the services of 10 UAE government departments, which commenced operations on Wednesday at the DIC headquarters.

He said there are some other reasons why companies have planned to shift their facilities to the DIC.

“The City is focusing on light industries and most of the companies will start business in a year or two,” he added. “The City is providing massive accommodation for labourers and soon it has six more labour villages.”

Al Malik ruled out any delay and postponement in the DIC and said they are on schedule and will have all buildings and warehouses by 2015.

Spread over 560 million square feet, the City is designed to create a viable live, work and play environment, featuring six industrial clusters for food and beverage, base metal, mineral products, chemicals, transport equipment and parts, and machinery and mechanical equipment.
