With just about ten days left for the 13th edition of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) to begin, the Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (DEPE), organisers of the region’s biggest summer event, has announced a three-and-a-half-month long shopping promotion that will run from June 1 to September 15. Over 6,000 retail outlets are expected to participate in the promotion with several hundred international and regional brands having opened recently.
With a recent report by CB Richard Ellis, a global research and consulting company, citing Dubai as the second most preferred retail destination for international retailers after London, the emirate’s retail industry is expected to receive another boost through DEPE’s summer promotion.
According to the report, Dubai is the only city in the Middle East to make it to the top ten in the rankings, also contributing to making UAE the second most preferred country for international retailers.
The campaign, titled ‘Summer Deals 2010’, will cover Dubai Summer Surprises, Ramadan, and Eid-Al-Fitr, providing shoppers an opportunity to make the most of shopping offers across outlets and malls in Dubai. It will also give retailers the chance to reach out to hundreds of thousands of shoppers that visit Dubai during DSS.
The summer extravaganza attracted around 2.2 million visitors in 2009, resulting in a consumer spending of Dh3.37 billion. According to a study conducted by DEPE on DSS 2009, 77 per cent of the visitors were satisfied with the DSS promotions, and while 51 per cent of visitors agreed that shopping was the main attraction of DSS, clothes and fashion accessories, perfumes and cosmetics, electronics, watches, and toys were the top five buys for shoppers.
As part of its efforts to include a larger number of retailers in this year’s promotion, DEPE has added more participating categories that will also provide shoppers with an added-value shopping experience.
Retailers can now be part of ‘Summer Deals’ through one or more categories including Sales, Part Sales, Discounts, Offers, Raffle Promotion, Kiosks, Media House Promotions, and Online Promotions.
