Pakistan Business Council chalks out events for 2010

DUBAI — Pakistan Business Council Dubai has chalked out an active programme of events for 2010 to promote business relations between Pakistan and the UAE and to update its members on the latest developments in the local, regional and international economic fronts.

Giving the details, PBC president Tahir H. Schon, told members at the first AGM that one of the early events would be a seminar, addressed by invited speakers on inheritance law and challenges in the UAE.

He said that the PBC would hold a series of seminars to guide the Pakistani investors affected by the downturn in the real estate market. The seminars are to be addressed by top officials from RERA, Land Department and other relevant bodies.

For a change, seminars will also be held on health issues to keep PBC members fit for business.

Seminars will be arranged with reputed speakers on trade and business topics with special emphasis on increasing imports from Pakistan into the UAE, Schon said.

As part of networking, Pakistani officials from government, ministries and trade bodies will be invited to for discussion with Pakistani businessmen in Dubai on national and international topics of interest.

“These officials will enlighten, educate and update our members on Pakistan’s policies and discuss ways to provide them support back home,” 
Schon said.

He said that besides national events, the PBC will also hold “ground-breaking” get-togethers to increase one-on-one social contacts where members can invite family members and friends and exchange views on present business scenarios.

Schon said that the PBC board of directors held a meeting this month with Hamad Buamin, DG of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and other officials of the chamber.

“We have been allowed to re-activate the Trade Committees within the banner of the PBC,” he said.

The PBC had elected seven directors to its board in February this year. In addition to Schon, the directors are: Tanvir Ul Islam Khawaja, executive vice president, Mumtaz Ahmed Muslim, secretary and legal affairs, Imran Saeed Chaudhry, public relations and media, and Iskander Sultan Khawaja, Ejaz Ahmed, and Muhammad Ashraf Dawood, directors.

Schon advised members to come forward with ideas for further activities of the PBC. Members suggested increasing the membership of the PBC.

Tanvir Khawaja presented the report for last year on behalf of past president, Iskander Sultan Khawaja, and Ehsan Ilahi, vice president – finance, presented the audited accounts for 2009.

Pakistan Consul General, Amjad Ali Sher, advised the business community that, PBC being a wing of the Pakistan Association Dubai, to help raise funds for the completion of the multi-purpose hall and the project of the new building of the Pakistan Sports and Recreation Club in Dubai.
