According to Eng. Hamad Buamim, Director-General, Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, imports of plastics and related goods touched Dh8.2 billion last year, while exports crossed the Dh3.4 billion mark.

Imports and exports of rubber and related items were valued at Dh4.9 and Dh2.9 billion respectively.

These figures come at a time when international and regional plastics companies will discuss latest industrial trends and solutions at ArabPlast 2009 exhibition that will be held in Dubai in the second week of January.

Dubai’s plastic products market, considered one of the biggest in the region, has diversified into different products such as pipes, fiber, etc.

The versatility of plastic makes its industry one of the most heterogeneous, with links to a large number of economic sectors.

Hamad Buamim added: “The growth in the plastics and rubber industry can be accredited to the astute Government policy that gives impetus to industries in all economic sectors in the emirate.”
