A total of 44,080 Middle East-based travellers visited Singapore in May this year – an eight percent increase over 2008 – with UAE, Saudi Arabia and Iran remaining the strongest growth markets. New flights from Riyadh and Kuwait City to Singapore have allowed even more Gulf travellers to visit the city.

In the second half of 2009, Singapore will host events such as the 2009 Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix and Singapore GP Seasons.

New developments such as ION Orchard shopping mall and the opening of Singapore’s 1st Integrated Resort – the Marina Bay Sands TM will add to Singapore’s offerings.

Singapore continues to invest in its tourism products; with the completion of a multi-million dollar refurbishment of Orchard Road, its premier shopping district, and the launch of new shopping malls such as Orchard Central and Illuma Shopping Centre.
