Pure Gold Jewellers founder and chairman Firoz Gulam Hussain Merchant was bestowed with the Ministry of Interior Excellence Award recently.
The award, presented by Lieutenant-General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, was in appreciation of Merchant's philanthropic Forgotten Society initiative in 2008 that aimed to release more than 20,000 insolvents from various prisons across the UAE.
"It was a very proud moment for me. I am extremely grateful and want to express my gratitude towards Lieutenant-General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the UAE government for acknowledging my efforts to provide support in community service and for giving this great opportunity to serve society. I have put my maximum effort for giving back to the society at its most," said Merchant.
