So much for our research-backed calculations for the prices of the new iPhones.
Last week, Khaleej Times made presumptive prices for Apple's new flagships, based on the expected dollar tags and differences in UAE pricing; we had pegged a Dh5,580 cost for the top-end model, the 512GB iPhone XS Max.
Turns out we missed that projection - by a mile.
Now that pre-orders for the iPhone XS and XS Max are ongoing, it has come to light that customers eyeing the biggest prize of the lot should be ready to shell out an eye-watering Dh6,129 for the newest iPhone, which dons the company's biggest screen and highest storage to date. Its 64GB and 256GB versions clock in at Dh4,229 and Dh4,859, respectively.
Technically speaking, the 5.8-inch iPhone XS - physically similar to the iPhone X but with internal upgrades - is cheaper than its predecessor: it comes with price tags of Dh4,229 (64GB) and Dh4,859 (256GB), a tad lower than its predecessor's Dh4,304 and Dh4,965.50. But its 512GB variant shoots up to Dh5,709.
And in case you missed it, Apple has already ceased production of the iPhone X, so those wanting a full-screen iPhone but don't want to spend much should wait for the iPhone XR, coming on October 26; it'll be priced at Dh3,179 (64GB), Dh3,389 (128GB) and Dh3,809 (256GB), and comes in six colours.
Good news, though, for those who want that Apple badge in their hands but don't want to splash that much: the tech giant has also slashed prices for previous generations of the iPhone.
For last year's iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, customers can spend up to Dh300 less. The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus from 2016 now offer a 'discount' of up to Dh700.
Meanwhile, there's also a bump-up in prices for the new Apple Watch.
The Series 4 GPS starts at Dh1,599, while the GPS + LTE version starts at Dh1,999. These are up from the Series 3's Dh1,149 and Dh1,549, respectively.
But given the following Apple has enjoyed throughout the years, it won't be surprising if its fans won't mind to pay the price.
