The Korean firm Asia Pacific Systems Inc will be the business partner of Thuraya in this project, and will act as the local service provider offering an array of products and solutions to suit the mobile communication requirements in that country. Thuraya will provide border-to-border coverage in Korea, especially in remote and rural locations which are being not covered by the conventional terrestrial mobile networks.

The Thuraya officials said in a Press release here on Monday that they were expecting a keen interest in their service to come from the marine, government and emergency services sectors in Korea. However, when contacted by Khaleej Times a spokesman for Thuraya declined to give any estimates on the potential market size for their products in Korea.

Korea is the latest market in which Thuraya has deployed its service in the Asia Pacific region, since the successful launch the Thuraya-3 satellite in January last year.
