The Tokyo-based technology company currently has an 18 per cent market share in the UAE, and 20 per cent overall in the region.
Santosh Varghese, Toshiba’s Regional General Manager for the Middle East and Africa’s Computer Systems Division, told Khaleej Times on the sidelines of the company’s Masterpiece Exhibition Tour on Monday that he is optimistic about more exciting times ahead, despite the current state of the economic environment.
“Yes, it is still very good to do business here in the region,” he said, pointing out that local consumers are looking more into high-end products, which he says is one major driver of the company’s growth.
“When you are in a place where high-end products are selling well… it really makes sense to do business there,” he said. Toshiba brought its Masterpiece tour to the UAE, which featured the technology company’s latest products now out in the local market.
Varghese added that after an extremely tough 2009, the company’s performance in the first two quarters is an indication that things will only get better.
“We see the market opening up now,” he said, referring to the fact that more and more people are coming out and looking for the latest trends in the technology sector, something which Toshiba is ready to deal with.
He said that the road show aims to allow consumers “to interact with the [Toshiba] brand in a unique and compelling way.”
The Masterpiece tour featured Toshiba’s newest offerings in the mobile computing line, including Europe’s lightest and thinnest laptops, the Portege R700 and Satellite R630, the Android-based AC100, and the limited-edition Libretto W100, a dual-screen Windows device.
All these products were launched coinciding with Toshiba’s 25th anniversary in the personal computer industry.
