Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf gets award

Returning for its second edition, the awards, brought together industry leaders to celebrate the many people and organisations who work behind the scenes to bring world-class sporting events and services to the Arabian Gulf.

The annual Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship has again been recognised as the region’s best professional sporting event at the Middle East Sports Industry Awards. Returning for its second edition, the awards, brought together industry leaders to celebrate the many people and organisations who work behind the scenes to bring world-class sporting events and services to the Arabian Gulf.

Voted for by a panel of industry professionals, the awards saw more than 160 entries submitted across 12 categories varying from sponsorship, organisation of both professional and amateur events, social media and marketing.

Organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority and title sponsored by HSBC, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship tees off every January at Abu Dhabi Golf Club welcoming one of the European Tour’s leading player fields who vie for the iconic Falcon Trophy and a cut of the $2.7million prize purse. “Since debuting in 2006, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship has grown into a world-class event enjoyed by players, media, thousands of spectators and millions watching around the world.” said Faisal Al Sheikh, Director, Events Bureau, TCA Abu Dhabi.

“We are extremely encouraged that the Championship has once again been recognised by the Sports Industry Awards as best in class against such tough competition. We are already working to deliver another memorable event in 2015 when we’ll mark the Championship’s 10^th anniversary.”

The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship was also recognised with a silver award for ‘Best Sports Marketing Campaign’ while HSBC took a silver award celebrating its world-class contribution as Championship title sponsor. The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship plays an integral role in growing and reaffirming the emirate’s status as one of the world’s most desirable golf destinations.
