Al Dhafra punish Al Wahda at home Al Dhafra notched their second win of the Arabian Gulf Cup season on Thursday night.
Abu Dhabi's less-fancied club piled more pressure on defending champions Al Wahda with a 4-2 punishment at the Al Nahyan Stadium. Javier Aguirre's boys had drawn their first game against Al Jazira and Al Dhafra had beaten Hatta in their opener. And the visitors were determined to continue their winning run and throughout the match they threatened to score with every move.
They ended up scoring four.
Syrian player Omar Khribin was the star of the match. What will hurt Al Wahda more is the fact that he is a product of club's youth team. The proceedings started as Khribin made good with a pass from Moroccan Adil Hermach to score the first for Al Dhafra in the fourth minute.
They went onto double the scoring in the stroke of half time with Abdullah Al Jabri thunderous low shot. After the break, the 'Clarets' woke up from their slumber.
And in the 59th minute, they marked their presence on the scoreboard with Hamdan Al Kamali, who stretched beyond the defenders to drill the ball past keeper Abdullah Sultan. It was a pass by Ismail Matar that was headed in by Sebastian Tagliabue to Al Kamali.
Al Wahda kept the momentum and in the 71st minute, Khalil Ibrahim shot a volley that was blocked by Khaleel Abdullah but inside the line.
With this goal, Al Wahda were breathing fire but there were host of chances wasted by them. And against the run of play, Adil Hermach blasted in a thunderbolt to score the third in the 88th minute. Just as the additional time was announced, the visitors piled more misery with a fourth.
Khribin set this up nicely for skipper Makhete Diop to hit the final nail in coffin.
Goals:
Al Dhafra (4): Omar Khribin 4, Abdulla Al Jabri (45), Adil Hermach (88), Makhete Diop (90)
Al Wahda (2): Hamdan Al Kamali (59), Khalil Ibrahim (71)
Yellow cards:
Al Wahda: Salem Sultan, Nasir Abdlehadi
