In the final piece of action for the night, Ahmed defeated Majid 6-4 to take home the bronze medal. All gold medal contests will be conducted at the NAS Sports Complex on July 6.
At the main indoor stadium, Hamdan Heritage Centre (HHC) earned the eighth quarterfinal berth with a hard-fought 4-2 win over Zabeel Office in the futsal competition on Thursday night.
Zabeel Office looked ‘3-2’ ahead midway through the second half till the referee unbelievably denied the ‘third’ goal amidst strong protests by the Zabeel men. Undeterred, Zabeel Office attacked even more with their goalie going up, and in the process let in two when HHC capitalised on the yawning gaps in the Zabeel defence. Also on the same day, XCAT take on Al Zeer and defending champions Fohood Zabeel run into Fohood Jumeirah. UAE’s top tennis player Omar Behroozian teamed up with Mohammed Al Janahi to cruise to the final of the UAE nationals padel tennis competition. Having won their opener on Wednesday, Omar and Mohammed easily overcame the pairing of Shaikh Saeed bin Juma Al Maktoum and Hassan Sharif 6-1, 6-0 to ease into the final.
In the other semis, Shaikh Saeed bin Hasher Al Maktoum and Omar Sharif were to take on Mohammed Ahli and Abdullah Ahli for a slot in the July 8 title clash. Omar had last year won the UAE nationals title with Abdul Rehman Al Janahi as his partner.
