Abu Dhabi Golf Club is primed to host the 10th anniversary of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, which will feature the most impressive field in the event’s history this week.

Leading the way for the ‘Gulf Swing’ opener are world numbers one and two Rory McIlroy and Henrik Stenson, three-time Abu Dhabi winner Martin Kaymer and American sensation Rickie Fowler.

The all-star cast will assemble over the Troon-managed venue from January 15-18 to challenge for the coveted Falcon Trophy and a share of the $2.7m prize fund.

Also in the line-up is Golf in Abu Dhabi ambassador Matteo Manassero, 2013 US Open champion Justin Rose and fellow stars of the 2014 European Ryder Cup team, Jamie Donaldson, Victor Dubuisson and Thomas Bjorn.

A series of recent course enhancements befitting one of the world’s leading golf destinations will ensure the titans of golf are faced with the most exciting challenge to date.

Director of Agronomy Andrew Whittaker and his award-winning team have worked alongside original course designer Peter Harradine — as well as championship organiser Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), IMG and the European Tour — to make significant changes to increase the on-course theatre.

Greens have been brought close to the water hazards on holes two, four and 12, allowing for perilous new pin positions, while four new pot hole bunkers have replaced two left-hand bunkers and the fairway has been moved closer to the water on hole 16. “We anticipate thrilling event with course updates adding drama for spectators and new challenges for players,” said Chris Card, the Group General Manager at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
