The renowned Dubai World Cup will conclude the DWCC as the ‘world’s richest day in racing’ will be held on March 30, 2013 and will feature an impressive list of nine Group races that include eight events for Thoroughbreds and one Purebred Arabian race.
This will mark the second year that the Dubai World Cup will offer nine races. The Dubai Gold Cup joined the prestigious night of racing in 2012. The list of Group races will include: “the world’s richest race” the Group 1 $10 million Dubai World Cup, sponsored by Emirates Airline; Group 1 $5 million Dubai Sheema Classic, presented by Longines; Group 1 $5 million Dubai Duty Free, sponsored by Dubai Duty Free; Group 1 $1 million Al Quoz Sprint, sponsored by Emirates NBD; Group 2 $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen; Group 2 $2 million UAE Derby, sponsored by The Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group; Group 2 Godolphin Mile $1 million, sponsored by Etisalat; Group 3 $1 million Dubai Gold Cup, sponsored by Al Tayer Motors; and the Group 1 $250,000 Dubai Kahayla Classic for Purebred Arabians, sponsored by EMAAR.
“The success of the Dubai World Cup Carnival and the Dubai World Cup has brought international prominence to racing in Dubai and the UAE,” said Malhi Al Basti, Meydan Group Board Member and Chairman of the Racing Committee.
“Each year we welcome the best in racing to Dubai for our Dubai World Cup Carnival, a season that is the goal of horsemen from around the world. It is our privilege to share our passion for this wonderful sport that connects the world through the power and beauty of the horse.”
Super Saturday will be scheduled for March 9 and once again will serve as the stellar night of prep races for many of the horses looking to compete in the Dubai World Cup three weeks later. A total of $1,775 million in prize money will be offered for the seven races contested that include: Group 1 $400,000 Al Maktoum Challenge – Round 3; Group 1 $300,000 Jebel Hatta; Group 2 $250,000 Dubai City of Gold, Group 3 $200,000 Mahab Al Shimaal; Group 3 $200,000 Burj Nahaar; the Listed US$250,000 Al Bastakiya; and the Listed $175,000 Meydan Sprint.
The Dubai World Cup Carnival programme will begin on Thursday, January 10, and will include the following dates: January 17, 24, and 31; February 7, 14, 21 and 28; March 2, 9, and the Dubai World Cup on March 30.
A total of 27 Group and Listed races will be held throughout the combined 20 race fixtures held at Meydan and include: seven Group 1 contests, 10 Group 2 events, seven Group 3 races, and 3 Listed events.
