Farrier looks good to win at the Jebel Ali racecourse on Friday. — KT file
Having narrowly beaten by today’s rival Interpret over a longer distance at the same venue last January, the six-year-old son of Tapit has finished disappointingly fifth behind Forjatt in the Jebel Ali Mile Group-3 last time out, but he showed signs of improvement when finished close second Tha’ir last time out at Meydan and should go one better before the curtains come down on a busy season. But, the job of the Satish Seemar-trained consistent is not going to be easy at all with plenty of top horses making the line-up for the Dhs120,000 prize-money. Top weight Interpret, Wayne Smith up, is a tough fighter and could turn the tables at any stage of the race should the son of Distorted Humor manage to appreciate the drop in distance.
Al Asifa Stables handler Ahmed bin Harmash is double handed in the race with the retained jockey Adrie De Vries riding Ennobled Friend, an impressive winner over a mile at the same venue on Jebel Ali debut, but he may find the opposition too strong this time out in the light of the big jump in rate.
Top Class will be ridden by Patrick Cosgrave for the rookie trainer on Jebel Ali debut and could be the one to beat should he manage to handle the dirt surface.
Royston Ffrench partners Zain Shamardal, a close second to Sharaayeen over course and distance, but still looking for his first Jebel Ali win in seven unsuccessful attempts.
Kanaf (Musabah Al Muhairi/ Paul Hanagan) faces the tough challenge of Encipher (Ali Trashid Al Raihe/ Royston Ffrench) in the 1400m Shadwell Farm Rated Conditions fourth race on the card. Kanaf has won four of his five course and distance starts and finished respectable second to Yaa Wayl in his only defeat, before Kanaf reversed places and beat his earlier conqueror by 14 lengths in the renewal.
Encipher was equally beaten by Kanaf on a similar event after having broken awkwardly and outpaced when failed to pick up in the concluding stages of the race, and should improve over that form on today’s renewal.
Ormindo has every chance to win the opening event, The Curragh Racecourse TB Handicap over a mile, under the Flying Dutchman Adrie De Vries for trainer Ahmed bin Harmash in the silks of Shaikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Bin Harmash could make it perfect two with Exploratory (Wayne Smith) in the subsequent race, Abu Dhabi University TB Handicap over 1950 metres. Sullivan Street and Ebn Arab are tipped to win the fifth and sixth races respectively.
