Dubai — JSS International School-Dubai made a big impression when they reached the semifinal of the all-India basketball championships in Kolkata for ICSE/ISC curriculum institutions.
In Pool D qualifying rounds, the ‘UAE Region’ representatives (JSS International School-Dubai) defeated ‘Maharashtra’, ‘Madhya Pradesh’, ‘Goa’, ‘Andhra Pradesh’ and ‘Telengana’. In the semifinal, ‘Tamil Nadu’ the Pool B winners, defeated the JSS squad 56-42, and went to claim the all-India crown with a thrilling 38-37 win over ‘Bihar Region’ in the title clash.
‘Bihar’ beat ‘Utter Pradesh (UP)’ 35-25 in the other semis. ‘UP’ went on to claim the bronze medal with 39-30 victory over the ‘UAE’ reps.
“It is commendable that the ‘UAE’ side was made up of one single school team – namely JSS-Dubai. Basketball is still developing among the Indian School Certificate curriculum institutions here and JSS International School-Dubai has taken the lead,” said Boban Chacko, coach and manager. Meanwhile, Gems Modern Academy won the The Millennium School 10th Inter-School Swimming Gala for Girls.
The Millennium School finished runners-up in the event where 280 participants from 23 schools took part.
