Indian High-Dubai; NIMS-S (A) and Our Own English HS-Sharjah of Group D are big names in senior ranks and it will be interesting to see how the next generation players are developing in these institutions.
Sharjah — New Indian Model School, Sharjah (NIMS-S) will host the 17th NIMS Inter School Mini Basketball Tournament (for under 13 year boys) from January 26 to February 3.
“Fourteen teams have registered for the eight-day championship. Being one of the early pioneers of structured grassroot basketball here, we started the event in 1997 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Indian Independence,” said Ganesh Vijayakumar, veteran coach and head of the NIMS-D PE Department, after the draw was taken at the venue.
“The main objective of the mini tournament was not about winning or losing but a chance to put the skills they have been practising to work on the court. As per the mini basketball rules all the players must play at least one period of the match.”
In Pool A, Our Own HS-Warqa; NIMS-Dubai; DPS-Dubai and St Mary’s-Dubai will vie for knockout berths while Pool B sees GEMS Modern Academy; Ambassador-Dubai; Westminster-Dubai and NIMS-S B battling it out for the top two spots.
In Pool C which is more or less well balanced, Model School-Abu Dhabi; Emirates National -Sharjah and Apple International-Dubai will be going all out from the first tap.

The initial matches will be held on a league cum knock out basis, and after the league rounds, the two top teams from each pool move into quarterfinals.
