Mohammad Qasim struck a brisk half century as Phoenix Medicine defeated Yogi Group by six wickets to emerge champions of the 6th Al Dhaid Ramadan Tournament at the Al Dhaid Cricket Village. The tournament is organized by the Sharjah Cricket Council.
Needing 153 to clinch the title, Phoenix Medicine took off immediately with openers Rohan Mustafa and Mohammad Qasim providing a 98-run partnership for the first wicket.
Mustafa had achieved 35 from only 25 balls with the help of four boundaries before he succumbed but Qasim carried on the momentum without any trouble.
He displayed total aggression to slam a 44-ball 70 supported by five hits to the fence and three over it.
Mohammad Rizwan (14, 19b) and Asif Mumtaz (18 not out, 14b, 2x4) scored crucial cameos as Phoenix Medicine achieved 154 for four in 18.2 overs.
Earlier winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Yogi Group suffered two quick losses before Swapnil Salvi (23, 28b, 1x4) and Salman Faris (21, 20b, 3x4) provided a brief relief.
Anakit Desai chipped in with 18 from 17 balls while Avadoot Amonkar hit 15 not out of only five deliveries supported by two maximums to further consolidate Yogi Group’s innings.
But it was Swapnil Patil’s awesome knock of an unbeaten 54 that came off 39 deliveries including four boundaries and two sixes that ensured Yogi Group achieved 152 for five in 20 overs.
