Sharjah Ladies Club’s Figure Skating Team clinched the third place overall at the Desert Open Figure Skating Championship which concluded at Zayed Sports City Ice Rink in Abu Dhabi last week.
The Sharjah team walked away with 25 medals in total, including eight gold, after a two-day competition that attracted a large turnout of ice skating enthusiasts.
Nine local and international teams from the region and beyond took part in the tournament. They were Cyprus, Qatar, Oman, Dubai Mall, Al Nasr Leisureland, Hyatt Regency, Dubai Ice Star, Al Ain Mall and Abu Dhabi.
The Sharjah Ladies Club skaters wowed the crowd with an exhibition of exquisite skills and dazzling routines.
Tamara Tijlasi, team coach, was delighted with the results. She said that winning 25 medals is a great result in the history of the team’s participation in this competition. She stressed that such participations would help skaters develop their talents and experience and promote this sport, which is attracting more interest and popularity in the UAE.
