Top jumpers eye Dubai honours

The $409,000 prize money 4th Dubai International Parachuting Championships (DIPC) 2013 is being held at the Skydive Dubai Club near the Palm Jumeirah at the beach and Marina area from November 29 to December 9, (actual competition days).

DIPC will see well over 1,000 leading skydivers from the UAE (37 member squad) and abroad taking part in the various categories of the different competition levels in the coming days.

The high profile and prestigious event is organised by the Emirates Aerosport Federation (EAF) & Skydive Dubai under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.

Shaikh Hamdan is an internationally qualified skydiver.

Team managers and judges attended an informative Q&A session with the organisers as part of the briefing process.

On Friday, the competition proper jumps began at 8am which was to be followed by the opening ceremony at 8pm at the Meydan Hotel in Nad Al Sheba.

The competitions go on to December 9 if there are unfinished jumps on December 8 and in such case, the final jump is scheduled for 2pm latest for December 9, to be followed by the closing ceremony, final awards presentation and farewell dinner.

An air show or a similar programme is planned on December 2, the National Day holiday.

The following disciplines and categories will be seen through the championships namely: Accuracy Landing (Male, Female & Juniors); Formation Skydiving (4-way Open, 4-way Female, 8-way, VFS 4-way); Canopy Formation (4-way Rotation, 2-way Sequential); Artistic Events (Freestyle Skydiving, Freeflying); and Canopy Piloting (Speed, Distance, Accuracy & Free Style).
