The UAE Olympic national team defeated their Omani counterparts 2-0 in a friendly at the Zeyab Awana grounds here on Sunday night. Both sides are preparing for the GCC U-23 Cup scheduled in Doha, Qatar next month.

Yousuf Saeed put the hosts ahead from the spot in the 21st minute and Salem Ali doubled the scoreline 11 minutes later to end the first half on a winning note.

The match was attended by Mahdi Ali, UAE senior national team head coach; Ali Hamad, acting general manager of the UAEFA; Dr. Mosa Abbas and Abdulla Sultan, members of the national teams’ committee; Abdul Qader Hassan, director of the national teams’ department; Hassan Al Abdouli, assistant coach of the senior national team; Hassan Ismail, keepers’ coach of the senior national team; Badr Ahmed, juniors’ national team manager; and Badr Saleh, head coach of the juniors’ national team and his assistant Khaled Dahes.

Meanwhile, the two teams renew rivalry on Tuesday at the same venue, after which the boys in white conclude their training camp while the Omanis head for Kuwait to take on Kuwaiti counterparts.

Omani assistant coach dissatisfied According to Mohammed Khamis Al Oraimi, assistant coach of the Omani Olympic national team, the result of the encounter came contrary to the run of the match.

“The result was unfair, though the UAE lads did the better work and scored,” he said. “Our team played well, but the players did not score, but friendlies are mainly intended to find out the weak points and work on them. We have benefited from the defeat and we will try to make things good in the future,” he added.
