His performance in South Africa in the ODI series was not up to the mark and he was dropped from Pakistan’s one-day team which won the series 2-1 in Zimbabwe last month.
“My axing from the one-day team was a big surprise for me. There are rumours that I have asked Pakistan Cricket Board to leave me out. But it is not true.
“My whole career is filled with such events. Whenever I got the chance I have tried my best to perform for the team. Life goes on, but it has never been easy for me,” Younis said. When asked if he wants to play in 2015 World Cup, Younus said: “It’s not a matter of playing in 2015 or 2016. If you are fit enough and you are performing you should keep playing.
“Pakistan legend Imran Khan quit at the age of 40-42. Me and Misbah-ul-Haq are of the same age but we are performing.
“I still feel good and I am performing. For me I feel myself fitter than when I first played for Pakistan cricket team at the age of 23.
“Yes, we should keep the future in mind but present should not be destroyed at the cost of future. There should be a blend and youngsters learn from the players who have spent 10-15 years in the field and who are still performing.
“Your fitness comes with time and age. I have no plans for 2015 but when I feel that my body is not allowing me to play then I will leave but not after being dropped. I will be going on a good note.”
Younis retired from the shortest version of the game after guiding Pakistan to World Tweny20 win in England in 2009.
“I want to leave the ODI arena the way I retired from the T20s after wining the World Cup. I want to end on a high note.”
