The newly-appointed dealer for Chinese cars in the country unveiled the new models for media and other VIP guests on Tuesday evening and will put on display these vehicles during the forthcoming Dubai Motor Show, which is starting next week.

Al Habtoor Motors will open its first dedicated showroom for Chery vehicles next month in Dubai and another in Abu Dhabi during the second quarter of 2014, Al Habtoor Motors managing director Karl Hamer told reporters at a news conference.

“I am sure Chery is all set to carve a niche for itself in this highly competitive automotive market, Hamer added.

Part of the UAE based diversified multi-billion dirham business conglomerate Al Habtoor Group, Al Habtoor Motors is also the exclusive distributor of Mitsubishi, Fuso, Temsa, Bentley, Bugatti and McLaren in the UAE.

Chery Automobile Company is China’s largest passenger vehicle exporter, with a global presence in over 80 countries. The auto manufacturer has sold over four million vehicles worldwide in the past 10 years.

Chery vehicles are not new for the Middle East region as the Chinese manufacturer made its foray into the region in 2001 from Syria.

“We started from Syria more than 12 years ago and received very good response since that. We hope Chery models will also get success here [UAE],” Chery International deputy general manager for Middle East and Europe Zhang Hua told Khaleej Times after the news conference.

Talking Chery’s success in the region, he said: “Every year, we are selling more than 40,000 vehicles in Iran, 30,000 in Iraq. We used to be top six car manufacturers in Egypt before the problem started there.”

In the late evening, Al Habtoor Motors launched the Chery E5 and E8 sedans along with Tiggo SUV and the P5 van during a special event in the presence of Sultan Al Habtoor, president Al Habtoor Motors; Ahmed Al Habtoor, chief executive officer of Al Habtoor Motors; Zhang Yi, Economic and Commercial Consular Economic and Commercial Section of Consulate General of China in Dubai; and Liang He, vice-consul of the Consulate General of China in the emirate.

Powered by a 1.8-litre Dual Overhead Camshaft engine, the elegantly designed E5 is a family sedan positioned for its economical performance and comfortable drive.

With a two-litre capacity engine capacity, the E8 is a refined luxury family car that perfectly integrates a wide body and elegant European style spacious interiors.

Featuring a brand-new driving experience Chery Tiggo integrates the strong elements of SUVs, Sedans, and MPVs.

The Chery P5 is a 14-seater van that is comfortable, economical and safe. An ideal business partner, the P5 features a luxury business travelling compartment with a super large space set on a super long wheelbase, and ultra-wide sliding doors for easy entry and exit.
