Samsung is ranked top in overall mobile phones and especially in smartphones category in the UAE for its flagship Galaxy and Note series, according to the latest data by GfK.

Samsung Electronics Company on Tuesday announced that it is now leading the UAE smartphone market with a 49.4 per cent share as of December 2013. In overall mobile phones category Samsung has achieved 44.7 per cent market share and recorded a solid growth of 46.3 per cent from 2012 to 2013. This growth was fuelled by the wide acceptance of Samsung’s successful line-up of smartphones in the country, according to the company.

Korean tech giant will lift the curtain on the fifth generation of the Galaxy S range with a chic unveiling and a high-energy demonstration in Dubai on April 2 as a regional launch and the device is expected to reach at power retailers by the end of next month. The Samsung Galaxy 5 was launched at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and is a significant upgrade on its predecessor the S4.

Hayssam Yassine, head of Telecommunications Group at Samsung Gulf Electronics, said: “The mobile phone market in the UAE is developing exponentially, and Samsung has kept up by doubling down on innovative features and superior hardware across all of our mobile phone lines.”

The GfK report said that the company has performed exceptionally well in the rest of the GCC markets. In the Gulf, Samsung recorded a 42.2 per cent increase from 2012 to 2013 following the launch of the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3 and its comprehensive portfolio of mid-range feature phones and smartphones.

“Last year, we introduced a range of mobile phones to the market that were intelligently designed to seamlessly integrate into the lives of our customers — whether they were looking to get the best in gaming, viewing, or photography — and to do so at different price points,” Yassine said: “These numbers show that our efforts have been successful, and are on par with what people really want from their handhelds.”

Samsung has made its mark by manufacturing phones for every demographic, and has increasingly become known for leading the market through user inspired innovation.
