Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says that any new effort to bring peace to Syria could include President Bashar Al Assad, a concession the Turkish leader had long rejected.
Erdogan told reporters on Thursday that it was "possible that this process may be without Assad or that the transition process may continue with Assad."
He quickly said that "nobody sees a future with Assad in Syria," but Erdogan's comments came as leaders across the US and Europe appear to be backpedaling on demands that Assad step down in the face of a four-year-old revolt against his rule.
On Thursday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel's said efforts to end the war in Syria should include Assad.
