As part of Tamkeen's professional certification scheme, nine Bahrainis have been certified as level one wastewater plant operators. The certification falls under Tamkeen's ongoing efforts to establish Bahrainis as the employees of choice. The group obtained the certification following training and official examination held at the headquarters of the Muharraq STP company under the supervision of the consulting engineering firm Engicon.
The certification is accredited by the Centre of Accreditation and Quality Assurance of the Technical and Vocational Centre at the Jordanian Ministry of Labour, and it is implemented in cooperation with the Office of Water Programmes from the California State University in Sacramento. The programme seeks to provide operators with the best operation and maintenance practices, enhancing their practical skills and improving the operation and maintenance performance of water utilities.
Commenting on the announcement, Tamkeen's chief executive Dr Ebrahim Mohammed Janahi said: "Tamkeen has always strived to support all key and vital sectors in the Kingdom. Providing opportunities for Bahrainis working in these sectors to grow and develop is essential for achieving economic prosperity and strengthening the infrastructure in the Kingdom.
Through Tamkeen's professional certifications scheme, many Bahrainis have been able to get such opportunities by obtaining accredited professional certifications that meet the demands of the labour market."
