The Arab Commission for Human Rights (ACHR) has condemned the serious violations by the Houthi rebels troops supporting ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh against Yemeni civilians in the city of Aden.
In a statement, the rights body said a mission delegated to visit Aden from September 11 to 13 had been briefed by Yemenis about the human rights violations, killing of civilians and destruction of houses and residential units and private and public institutions.
"The random offensives and shelling of inhabited areas in the neighbourhoods of Aden resulted in deaths, injuries and displacement of thousands of civilians and destruction of civil infrastructure," the statement said.
The mission, according to the statement, will document these violations to prevent the perpetrators of these crime escaping without impunity.
The committee voiced concern over the inhuman practices of the rebel militias and their violation of the international and humanitarian law. The violations included torture, execution, repressivearrest, child abuse as well as looting and forced displacement of civilians and disruption of delivery of humanitarian aid to the needy.
It stressed the need to speed up the work on restoring the public services to the citizens. The committee praised the efforts being made to restore the power and water supply and public hospital services as well as reopening of schools.
The committee also lauded the extensive efforts taken for relief supplies offered by the countries taking part in the Saudi-led coalition.
The committee urged the Arab countries and the intentional organisations to beef up the volume of aid to the Yemeni people in general and the refugees and the displaced in particular.
The mission also appealed to the Arab League and the international community to continue efforts to find out a solution for the aggravating humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
