The Fault in Our Stars

Not only has the comedy-drama dazzled critics for its thoughtful yet funny take on a very difficult subject, but it’s also a bona fide smash hit.

After a wave of cinematic turkeys attempting to cash in on the lucrative young adult genre (following the success of the Twilight and Hunger Games franchises), The Fault in Our Stars manages to score a rare victory.

An adaptation of the wildly successful 2012 novel by John Green, Fault tells the story of two cancer-stricken teens – Hazel (Shailene Woodley) and Augustus (Ansel Elgort) who meet in a support group and fall in love.

Not only has the comedy-drama dazzled critics for its thoughtful yet funny take on a very difficult subject, but it’s also a bona fide smash hit. In its opening weekend alone in the States, the $12 million flick hoovered up a massive $48 million at the box office – beating Tom Cruise’s acclaimed new blockbuster Edge of Tomorrow by almost $20 million.

“It’s a fresh, lively love story, brimming with humour and heartbreak, and lifted to the heights by Shailene Woodley, a sublime actress with a résumé that pretty much proves she’s incapable of making a false move on camera,” said Peter Travers of Rolling Stone.

“The Fault in Our Stars achieves that rare feat of eliciting as many cheers as tears,” said Ann Hornaday of The Washington Post.

The Fault in Our Stars currently has an 82% rating on rottentomatoes.com and an 8.6/10 rating on imdb.com.
