A new kid on the block has taken the world of music by storm, but a very pleasant and melodious one.
Pakistani expat Mustafa Khan is only 12 years old, studying in Grade 6 at Dubai's JSS International school, but when it comes to singing Bollywood songs, he is a natural genius. He is probably one of the youngest Bollywood-style singer from Dubai.
Styled as MK, Mustafa has had no formal training in music but his God-gifted mellifluous voice instantly strikes a cord with listeners.
If you don't believe us, check out his cover video titled Mustafa Khan - The Mashup (of popular Bollywood songs) and you will know what we are talking about.
Nothing short of a child prodigy, MK is all set to release his debut album with either T-Series or Sony featuring five or six tuneful solo numbers this Eid Al Fitr. He is currently also recording famous Sufi song 'Damadam Mast Kalandar' that will be released during Ramadan.
What is astonishing is that MK has had no formal training in music. But his voice and ability to record perfectly without any interruptions or retakes makes it hard to believe.
When asked about how his hidden talent was discovered, his father and mentor Faisal Khan said: " About two years ago, as I entered the house after work, I heard Mustafa casually singing with his friend and it was so tuneful that I could not believe it was my son singing. From that day onwards, whenever I am driving with him, instead of switching on FM, I tell Mustafa to sing for me ... that is the only practice he gets."
"His talent is raw and I would like it to remain that way because I believe that will be his Unique Selling Point," added the supportive father.
MK says that he is deeply inspired by Bollywod singer Arijit Singh and would love to get a chance to perform a duet with him.Asked how he balances between school and recording songs, Faisal Khan says his son is also good at academics. He does not miss his school or classes on the pretext of recording songs or videos. Instead, he devotes his weekends for his recordings, which are done in a production house in Al Qouz area.
Mustafa's videos are being directed by award winning director and producer David Zennie, known for his music video work with international artists such as Yo Yo Honey Singh, and Mohammed Assaf.
"I am investing heavily in my son as I do not want his talent to go waste and I want the best for him," said Faisal.
The support and encouragement from his friends and family has enabled this little bundle of talent to nurture and prosper. The cover song and teaser of his upcoming number Kaisa Rang Laaga are being heard and appreciated by celebrities such as Adnan Sami, Sonal Chauhan, Madhvan, Rapper Flint J, who have retweeted his songs on Twitter.
Oozing with confidence and passion for music, this boy is here to stay.
