Translation services at Abu Dhabi courts will now be provided through video calling, it was announced on Sunday. The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) launched an interpretation centre that will provide translation services via video in hearings at all stages of the trial.
The smart interpretation centre was inaugurated on Sunday by Counselor Yousif Saeed Al Abri, Undersecretary of the ADJD, and Ali Mohammed Al Baloushi, Attorney-General of Abu Dhabi.
Officials said that under this service, courts are provided with the required translation through all stages of trial, without the need for translators to shuttle from one place to another, "thus saving time and efforts and maximising available resources".
Previously, translators or interpreters of different languages had to move from one court room to another to attend court sessions and provide translation services to the defendants whenever required.
Counselor Al Abri said: "Through the use of video communication, the ADJD interpretation centre will enhance the quality of the services provided in accordance with the highest international standards. It will ensure efficient adjudication of cases and quality judgments, ensuring a just and efficient criminal justice system."
He said the judicial department is working according to an integrated plan aimed at the electronic transformation of services. This plan will ensure quick completion of the due processes.
"The use of video communication technology in the provision of interpretation services allows the coordination of the translation work," Al Abri added.
The centre will have the ability to identify work requirements and provide services accordingly.
