The Dubai Police have arrested five members of a gang and seized 148kg of poppy seeds from them.
Praising the vigilance of the team of General Department of Anti-Narcotic of the Dubai Police, Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police, said the suspects were arrested on August 25 in operation Al Sabkha.
Colonel Eid Mohammed Thani Hareb, Director of the department, said that the experienced gang that specialised in drug trafficking had distributed roles such as hiding, importing and promotion of drugs, amongst themselves.
After receiving information about suspicious activities of two of the gang members who ran a grocery store in the Bur Dubai area, the police put them under surveillance. On raiding the grocery store, the police team found the poppy seeds hidden in eight plastic bags.
The police urged the public to report any suspicious activity or if they find anyone promoting drugs as they can destroy lives.
