A 16-year-old girl died and five others were injured when the car they were travelling in overturned on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. This is the first fatal accident to take place on the stretch since implementation of the reduced speed limit on October 15. A 42-year-old Jordanian was driving the Land Cruiser. There were four more persons - all Jordanian nationals - accompanying him in the car, which was running opposite Silicon Oasis and going towards Sharjah. The driver took a sudden swerve and lost control over his vehicle, while smashing a concrete barrier. The car overturned, leaving the passengers injured. The 16-year-old girl sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital. She was pronounced dead on arrival. The traffic policemen and prosecutors said that primary investigation indicated that the accident was caused as the driver took a sudden turn which led the car to flip over. Brigadier Saeed bin Suleiman, director of Rashidya police station, said that following the accident, police patrols swung into action and immediately rushed the injured to the hospital. Meanwhile, a heavy truck driver had a narrow escape while driving his vehicle on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road on Friday afternoon. His truck veered off towards the opposite direction of the road and caught fire after it overturned. The driver managed to come out of the truck and save his own life as his vehicle burst into flames.
