Dubai - Works set to be completed in first quarter of 2018

Integrated traffic and mobility solutions are being fast-tracked to decongest five traffic hotspots in Dubai with road improvements expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2018, the Roads and Transport Authority announced on Saturday.
One of the road projects include adding one lane to Al Khail Road in the direction of Sharjah in the area between Meydan Road before Dubai Mall bridge, thus adding a fourth lane to Al Khail Road. According to the RTA, this will increase the capacity of Al Khail Road by 1,800 vehicles per hour.
Another solution is widening the exit at the intersection of Hessa and Al Khail Road to make it two lanes instead of current one, and accordingly ease the current bottleneck at that site.
Another lane would be added to the collector road parallel to Al Khail Road at the intersection of Hessa Road inbound from the Sheikh Zayed Road heading to Sharjah. This solution would increase the capacity of the road from 1,500 vehicles per hour to 3000 vehicles per hour.
An additional roundabout will also be provided on Road 46 at Al Mamzar to offer an alternative route for residents to easily exit the area instead of relying on the sole existing exit to Al Wuhaida Road. This exit has a high traffic density, which also has a negative impact on Al Wuhaida Road.
The new roundabout would enable exiting the area through Road 46 and ease the pressure on the existing exit at Al Wuhaida Road. Also at the fourth road project site, the RTA would widen the storage lane at the intersection of the Business Bay Road with Al Saada Road coming from Sheikh Zayed Road from two to three lanes aside from elongating the storage lanes. "This solution would boost the capacity of the intersection, reduce the delay and cut the snarls, which currently goes back up to the Sheikh Zayed Road," the RTA noted
The fifth road project is to carry out improvements at three surface intersections in Al Qouz Industrial Area. The number of lanes of some intersections would be increased, and service roads would be constructed in some places. These solutions would contribute to easing the traffic flow in an area witnessing serious delays due to the intensity of heavy vehicles.
Mattar Al Tayer, RTA director general and chairman of the board of executive directors, said: "These traffic solutions are part of RTA's Strategic Plan that provides for examining the traffic in densely populated areas all over Dubai streets."
"The process involves figuring out integrated traffic and mobility solutions, proposing strategic solutions, and identifying the mass transit systems required. It also entails carrying out improvements in road network, and introducing quick and medium term solutions for congested traffic spots," he added.
