Turkey tops Eid destinations
Turkey tops the roster of favourite destinations of Emiratis and expatriates travelling abroad for Eid holidays, while Far East and London come next with majority of the outbound tourists being Emiratis and their families.
A number of expatriates will also be going home on Eid holidays to be with their families.
An Emirati family, Al Sarkals, will be leaving on the second day of Eid for a two-week holiday in Turkey. Mohammed Al Sarkal says he, together with his wife and five kids, will tour the ancient landmarks of Turkey and experience the Turkish hospitality. “We went to Turkey two years ago, but it was only for a week. This time, we will be spending 12 days there and will go to places we have not visited during our first trip there.”
Australian Brendan Lewis, who is working in a logistics company in Dubai for four years, says this is the first time he will spend Eid holidays for 18 days in Turkey and Morocco. “I saw Turkey in documentaries and immediately desired to go there. I have planned this trip for a long time. I will also visit Morocco upon the invitation of my Moroccan friend.”
Syed Mohammed from India prefers to go home to spend Eid with his parents, brothers and sisters. “For the past two years, myself, my wife and our two kids spent Eid in Dubai. This time, we will be going to Kolkata to be with our parents,” he says.
Filipino Alan Barba left for Manila with his two daughters for a vacation last Thursday. “I planned this trip to start few days before the Eid holidays so that I will be enjoying a longer vacation at home. With the weekend and the Eid, I will be having four more days with my family in Pasig,” he says.
An Indian expatriate, Venissa Fernandez, has selected Seychelles to spend her Eid holidays with a six-night stay starting Saturday. “I need something new to unwind. This holiday is important to me for it will give me a chance to be away from my routine job.”
Mohammed Al Rais, Managing Partner of Al Rais Travel and Tours, says that there is a slight increase in the number of travellers this Eid as compared to last year’s record. “Turkey is the top destination followed by the Far East, London, Korea, Japan and Ireland.”
The bulk of inbound travellers come from the GCC countries, led by national families from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait.
Kulwant Singh, Managing Director of Lama Group of Companies, says about travel trends: “Turkey, Sri Lanka and Thailand are major destinations for outbound tourists this Eid. Emirati families will generally start travelling on the third day of Eid. A mix of UAE expatriates are taking short Eid breaks, most of the single travellers are joining their families back home.”
“Among inbound tourists, a lot of GCC and Indian families are coming to Dubai for Eid break. Bookings at Lama have shown an increase of 12 per cent in the number of GCC visitors spending their Eid in Dubai,” he says.
