A painting of Burj Al Arab with the UAE flag flying high on top and a handmade date box were the gifts students from Rashid Centre for the Determined Ones offered to Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and CEO and chairman of Emirates Group, as tokens of appreciation on National Day.

Mahek Mansukhlal who created the artwork said she was inspired by the generosity of Sheikh Ahmed, who is also the chairman of Rashid Centre, and for his efforts to help people of determination.

"The painting also represents our happiness and I used green as the dominant colour, instead of blue as the colour of the sky in the background, because green embodies hope and harmony - and these are the values that represent the UAE," Mansukhlal told Khaleej Times.

Sheikh Ahmed expressed his gratitude to the students, staff and management of Rashid Centre. He said: "I am delighted by the initiative of the students of Rashid for the Determined Ones for their special and extraordinary celebration of the 46th UAE National Day by visiting institutions and government departments to give felicitations. They also serve as an inspiration to everyone on this occasion."

Mariam Othman, co-founder and director of Rashid Centre, for her part said: "As our great nation turns 46, I thank our visionary leaders and captains of the industry for their remarkable contribution towards making this country into what it is today. Through their leadership, vision and aspirations, the UAE has become an exemplary model of an inclusive society, where people of different abilities are able to live together in harmony."
