A man has stood trial in the Fujairah Misdemeanour Court for breaking his minor son's mobile phone.
Court records showed that the man used to have heated arguments with his wife, which led to their separation. The mother won the custody of her children, including the son involved in the cell phone case.
The Shariah court permitted the father to see and check on his children as per scheduled visits.
During one of these visits, the father got upset while checking the cell phone of his son. He found a number of "unacceptable friends, including a girl", in his son's Facebook account. The angry man chided the boy and broke his mobile phone.
The mother, in turn, felt sorry for her son, and lodged a complaint against his father at the Fujairah Police. She accused her former husband of assaulting her son and breaking his cell phone.
The Fujairah Public Prosecution referred the case to the court.
The defence lawyer told the court that the father was only disciplining his child. He was the one who bought the cell phone for his son, the lawyer pointed out.
The court adjourned the case to a later date for issuing verdict.
