An Arab man stood trial at the Fujairah Misdemeanour Court on charges of assaulting his brother's wife.
As per court records, the case unfolded when the defendant was on a visit to his brother's house. He claimed there was a heated argument between his mother and brother's wife.
"I had to push her away from my mother to put an end to the fierce war of words between them," the man pointed out.
The woman lodged a complaint against him with the Fujairah Police accusing him of assaulting her.
The man was summoned and referred to the Fujairah Public Prosecution where he was charged with assaulting his brother's wife (sister-in-law).
The defendant denied the charges and told the court that it was his brother's wife who insulted his mother.
"She used abusive words against my mother. She even humiliated her by saying: 'You are under my shoes'."
"I could not help but push her away from my mother as she was about to assault her," he said.
"I did nothing else; it was just a slight push without any intention of any assault."
The court ordered adjournment of the case to next week to issue its ruling.
