A man, who was convicted of beating up his wife while she was pregnant, has been ordered to pay her Dh15,000 in compensation.

Al Dhafra civil appeals court upheld the ruling by a lower court that directed him to pay the amount as compensation for the physical, material and moral damages.

According to court documents, the woman complained to the authorities that the man had assaulted her following an argument.

She said she was afraid she would lose her baby as a result of the assault. But her condition improved after treatment. After investigating the case, prosecutors charged the man with assaulting his wife.

He was found guilty of the crime and punished.

Following this, the woman filed a lawsuit against the husband, demanding Dh50,000 as compensation.
